About the role

The role involves delivering quality care through teamwork, ensuring patient safety, managing pain, and providing support for patient education and discharge planning. The position requires assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Executes appropriate policies and procedures to assure patient safety.
  • Supports pain management and provides non-pharmacological measures.
  • Aids patients and families in identifying individualized comfort measures.
  • Follows up on interventions from other departments and mobilizes resources for complex cases.
  • Provides information and interpretation of patient conditions, offering coping mechanisms.
  • Formulates and documents a discharge plan to maximize patient's ability to continue meaningful life activities.
  • Foresees potential age-specific healthcare needs and anticipates patient needs.
  • Ensures effective handoff communication and reports on expected situations and problems.
  • Identifies and addresses issues related to patient education for medication management.
  • Plans and provides unique comfort measures using evidence-based practice.
  • Collaborates with case managers and health care providers to resolve care regimen issues.
  • Develops plans for adjusting staffing patterns as needed.
  • Attends educational sessions to enhance departmental needs.
  • Participates in unit and hospital committees and performance improvement activities.
  • Prepares for Joint Commission readiness and achieves successful Patient Satisfaction scores.

Requirements

Education: Associate's degree or graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

Experience: None required, but previous nursing experience is preferred.

Other Credentials: AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider, Registered Nurse - NJ.

Training: Requires TNCC (or must obtain within 1 year of hire) and 8 hours of CNE contact hours for specific units.

Knowledge and Skills: Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, high interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication, quick adjustment to change, and knowledge of nursing principles.

Special Training: Knowledge of nursing skills, hospital practices, and procedures.

Qualifications

Physical Demands: Frequent physical demands include pushing/pulling, twisting, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, crawling, wrist position deviation, pinching, keyboard use, repetitive motion, taste/smell, sitting, climbing stairs/ladders, standing, walking, carrying objects, talking/hearing, lifting up to 25 lbs frequently, and 25 lbs continuously.

Sensory Requirements: Very accurate vision, near and far vision, color discrimination, accurate depth perception, and accurate hearing.

Occupational Exposure Risks: Bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, airborne communicable diseases, dust/particulate matter.
