About the role

This role is responsible for providing emergency medical services and medical support at sporting events, concerts, and other special events held at the Delta Center and various venues throughout the city. Work assignments may vary based on event schedules, staffing needs, and venue locations. Candidates should be prepared to work in dynamic, fast-paced event environments and travel to designated event sites as required.

The RN Ambulance Services Nurse provides advanced, autonomous medical care to critically ill or injured patients during ground transport, demonstrating advanced critical thinking, technical skills, and collaboration with healthcare professionals in dynamic and often non-traditional settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provides advanced life support, critical care, and patient stabilization during ground transport, ensuring compliance with medical protocols and safety standards.
  • Assesses and stabilizes critically ill or injured patients using critical thinking and autonomous decision-making in high-pressure environments.
  • Performs interfacility and in-transport advanced life support, including airway management, cardiac care, and medication administration.
  • Maintains and prepares medical equipment, ensures readiness for transport, and documents patient care accurately and thoroughly.
  • Collaborates effectively with healthcare teams, patients, and families to ensure clear communication and continuity of care during transport.
  • Meets all physical, technical, and certification requirements, with a commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Promotes the nursing profession and participates in the development of others.
  • Integrates legal and ethical standards into practice, complies with regulatory standards, practices within scope of licensure, provides accurate and timely documentation, and understands legal implications of care delivery.

Requirements

  • Current RN License in the state of practice with no restrictions.
  • Demonstrated RN experience in emergency room or critical care.
  • Certification(s) as appropriate to area(s) of practice (e.g., Advanced Life Support (ALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and trauma care).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (degree will be verified). Registered Nurses (RNs) hired or promoted into this role must obtain their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four years of their hire or promotion date. If there is an existing education agreement, that agreement will take precedence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of RN experience in emergency room or critical care.
  • Five or more years of diverse critical care experience.
  • Compact nursing license.
  • Advanced certification in trauma care (e.g., TNATC, ATLS, PHTLS, TNCC).
  • Familiarity with advanced medical technologies and ICU-level care during transport.

Physical Requirements

  • Capability to work in confined spaces, high-stress environments, and extreme conditions, including noise, vibration, and temperature.
  • Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require verbal communication as well as hearing and understanding spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, and medication preparation.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients, including bending to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, often involving heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, often navigating crowded and busy rooms.
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing, and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Pay

The hourly range for this position is $37.45 - $57.29. Actual hourly rate is dependent upon experience.
