About the role
The Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with the physician. They utilize the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification, including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. The Registered Nurse oversees necessary coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care and provides for its consistency with the medical treatment plan.
Responsibilities
- Assessment - an orderly process consisting of the identification, gathering, and organization of subjective and objective data pertaining to the patient/family/significant other, including physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural aspects.
- Planning - an organized step in the process that consists of identifying actual or potential problems and desired outcomes (goals) resulting in a documented plan of care.
- Intervention - the specific interventions or orders that are implemented consistent with the plan of care and medical treatment plan.
- Evaluation - a step in the process involving the determination of the effectiveness of interventions in achieving the plan of care and determining conclusions concerning the achievement or lack of achievement of desired outcomes. The evaluation may initiate the need for reassessment and revisions to the problems, goals, plan of care, and interventions.
- Education is consistent with the identified problem and associated goals and is seen as critical to creating an environment that promotes patient empowerment.
- Performing limited laboratory services such as patient identification, specimen collection, processing samples for testing, performing required quality control testing, instrument maintenance and function checks, monitoring, recording, and reporting test results to clinicians, including critical values, and maintaining competency/certification of the aforementioned tasks and duties.
- Supporting performance improvement initiatives and providing leadership to other members of the patient care team.
- Participating in educational activities to assume responsibility for continued professional and personal growth.
Requirements
- Emergency Room: 2 years medical/surgical and/or emergency room experience preferred. ACLS required within 6 months of hire or transfer. ATCN or TNCC is required within 24 months of hire or transfer. PALS or ENPC attained within 12 months of hire or transfer.
- Critical Care Units: 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; Critical care experience preferred. ACLS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer. CCRN preferred.
- Cardiovascular ICU/CVU: 2 years critical care and Cardiovascular ICU experience preferred. ACLS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer.
- Heart and Vascular Unit (HVU): 2 years telemetry experience preferred. ACLS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer.
- Patient Care Units (PCUs): 2 years telemetry experience preferred. ACLS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer.
- Medical/Surgical units: 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred. ACLS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer.
- Operating Room: 2 years medical/surgical and operating room experience preferred. ACLS required by 12/31/24 for all RNs in the City OR. CNOR preferred.
- PACU/Same Day Surgery/Recovery Room: Critical care or PACU experience required. ACLS required at time of hire or transfer. PALS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer.
- Intervention Radiology: 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; Interventional and Critical Care experience preferred. ACLS at time of hire or transfer. PALS required within 1 year from date of hire or transfer.
- Cath Lab/Electrophysiology (EP): Critical care, emergency room, cath-lab or telemetry experience preferred; ACLS at time of hire or transfer.
- Endoscopy: 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; Endoscopy, telemetry and critical care experience preferred. ACLS required within 6 months from date of hire or transfer.
- Radiation Oncology: Oncology experience preferred. OCN preferred.
- Structural Heart: 2 years' experience in cardiology. Ability to perform phlebotomy, EKG, IV insertion, ACLS required at time of hire or transfer.
Qualifications
- Education/License: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or current multi-state license required. BLS required.
- Experience: Specialty experience advanced certification required; certification preferred.
- Other: Valid NJ Driver's License is required for all employees in the Adult and Child Partial Programs.
