About the Role

Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager (or designee), implement, supervise, and evaluate the nursing care of each patient using a nursing process and in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Plan care from admission to discharge with consideration of the aging process throughout the life span, including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.

Responsibilities

  • Act in accordance with the principles of the Brown University Health Corporate Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
  • Provide safe delivery of patient care:
    • Deliver direct nursing care to patients with complex needs.
    • Implement the steps of the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation) and integrate these activities with all members of the health care team.
    • Delegate and supervise nursing care activities provided by personnel such as Licensed Practical Nurses, Nursing Student Associates, Certified Nursing Assistants, Technicians, Unit Assistants, and Unit Service Coordinators.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care activities and ensure compliance with standards.
    • Manage the implementation of therapeutic/diagnostic orders as per policy.
    • Evaluate and communicate patient responses and condition changes to physicians.
    • Keep families informed of care status and changes.
    • Coordinate discharge planning for patients and families using hospital and community resources.
    • Teach patients and families in accordance with standards and patient teaching guidelines.
    • Maintain patient and family confidentiality according to hospital policy.
    • Serve as an active patient and family advocate.
    • Document care according to policy and procedure.
  • Maintain emergency and safety conduct:
    • Maintain Basic Life Support certification.
    • Identify cardiopulmonary arrest and initiate CPR.
    • Demonstrate adherence to Universal Precautions, Safety Programs, and other infection control measures.
    • Review fire, disaster, and infection control protocols.
    • Demonstrate ability to perform responsibilities in emergency/code situations.
    • Check emergency equipment.
    • Report unsafe situations to the Registered Nurse or Clinical Manager.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island or in another state that participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Successful completion of the Hospital's Patient Care Delivery Orientation Program, including entry-level credentialing of selected skills.
  • Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
  • ACLS certification required.

Qualifications

  • Two years’ medical-surgical nursing experience and telemetry experience required.
  • Two years Endoscopy experience preferred.

Work Environment

  • General hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care.
  • Position requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting.

Independent Action

Performs independently within department policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of department policies and procedures may be required.

Pay

$35.70 - $71.40 per hour

Schedule

  • Work Type: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Daily Hours: 8 hours
  • Driving Required: No
