Registered Nurse - Endoscopy
About the Role
The RN is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated timeframe and provides care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members. The RN is expected to perform their duties according to established standards of care and the core values established by the Division of Nursing. Reports to assigned Unit Director.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients with a variety of needs.
- Use a person-centered care approach in the development of care, and effectively prioritize patient needs that are both expected and unanticipated.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills to interact with other health care professional and patients.
- Demonstrate competence and resourcefulness in the implementation of the technical skills required to care for the patient.
- Demonstrates initiative in remaining current in the organization and department policies, procedures, and standards.
- Evaluates effectiveness of care giving, shows follow through on delivery, demonstrates critical thinking skills by making appropriate clinical decisions, proactively addresses actual and potential problems, and executing compliant clinical documentation.
- Assist with educating patients and families and serves as a resource on department standards for patient care.
Schedule
This is a full-time position that includes on call coverage typical schedule - 1 night a week, 1 weekend a month. The unit is staffed Monday-Friday with 8 or 10 hour shift options ranging from 6:15am-6:00pm.
Required Skills and Experience
- Current NYS Registered Nursing
- 1 year of Endoscopy RN preferred
- Will obtain BLS during introductory period
- ACLS certification must be obtained prior to completion of the introductory period
Physical Demands
- Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., Use of computer keyboard)
- May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs), including boxes, equipment, IV solutions
- Stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers)
- Sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time may be necessary
- Must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job
