Responsibilities

Nursing at Garnet Health involves the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations (ANA, 2010). Clinical nurses are guided by:

Additional responsibilities include:

• Recognizing and adhering to patient and staff safety precautions
• Reporting potentially dangerous situations to minimize risk of injury
• Participating in Root Cause Analysis and efforts to reduce medical errors
• Completing annual mandatory training, including BLS, ACLS, PALS, and other certifications as required by the department

Requirements

Licensure

• Active New York State Nursing License in good standing

Education

• Associate, Baccalaureate (preferred), Master’s, or Doctorate Degree in Nursing from an Accredited School of Nursing

Certification

• American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses Certification Preferred (based on specialty hours of work requirement)
• Emergency Department-specific certifications:
• Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) – preferred
• Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) – preferred
• Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse – preferred
• Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) – preferred
• ACLS – required
• PALS – required within 6 months
• TNCC – required within 1 year
• Hospital crisis intervention training course – required within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter

Experience

• Preferred: 9 months of experience in Medical-Surgical, Critical Care, Emergency Department, Progressive Care, or Acute Pediatrics

Physical Demands

• Considerable standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
• Considerable visual demands
• Must be able to perform RN essential physical functioning demands as determined by Employee Health/Pre-Screening Assessment
• During patient transferring tasks, if any caregiver is required to lift more than 35 lbs of a patient's weight, the patient should be considered fully dependent, and assistive devices must be used
• Ergonomic stressors include moderate to frequent heavy lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients; must participate in Safe Patient Handling initiatives

Working Conditions

• Adherence to the New York Department of Labor/Nursing Licensure Board recommendation on the 16-hour work limit
• Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances
• Exposure to unpleasant patient elements (e.g., blood and other potentially infectious materials)
• Subject to varying and unpredictable situations, including emergency and crisis scenarios
• Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, respirators, or full-body suits
• Potential contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards

Pay

The compensation range for this role is $56.58 - $62.48 hourly. This range complies with New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements and does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits. Factors considered in determining compensation may include location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget, and internal equity.
