About the Role

This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department, responsible for initial patient assessments, laboratory work, point-of-care testing, and administrative tasks related to patient care. The role involves collaboration with physicians on discharge plans, patient education, and effective patient transfers for hospital admission.

Responsibilities

  • Triage patients in the Emergency Department, prioritizing care based on the critical nature and severity of their condition.
  • Assess patient condition through visual evaluation, medication reconciliation, and vital sign measurements (blood pressure, pulse rate, respiration, and temperature) throughout their stay.
  • Administer medication and assist with medical procedures as prescribed by the treating physician.
  • Monitor patients for changes in condition and communicate effectively with the care team in compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the patient care team on procedures, interventions, discharge, or admission processes.
  • Maintain accurate and consistent patient records, including medical history, condition, medications, and treatment, updating the electronic medical record throughout the patient’s stay.
  • Discharge patients post-treatment, providing clear instructions, education, and confirming transportation arrangements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • Minimum: Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse Program by date of hire.
  • Minimum: Two (2) years of Critical Care experience.
  • Preferred: Two (2) years of Emergency Department experience.

Qualifications

  • American Heart Association Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) – upon date of hire
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – within 90 days of hire or transfer
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – within 90 days of hire or transfer
    • Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) – within 90 days of hire or transfer
  • Registered Nurse – licensed to practice in the state of Indiana upon hire.
  • Preferred certifications: CEN, TNCC, NRP.
