Registered Nurse- Emergency Department

About the role

Beloit Health System at Beloit Memorial Hospital is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Department team and provide exceptional care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform triage assessments and prioritize patient care based on clinical needs.
• Assess, monitor, and document patient conditions, symptoms, and responses to treatment.
• Provide emergency nursing care, including basic life support and patient stabilization.
• Collaborate with physicians, EMS, community agencies, and the interdisciplinary care team.
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, and discharge care.
• Manage multiple cases simultaneously, prioritizing needs continually.
• Collect current symptoms, as well as detailed patient history and consult with and coordinate with the ED healthcare team.
• Detect changes in symptoms, health or pain, and know when action is necessary.
• Manage basic life support needs and stabilize patients until the physician is available based on policies, protocols, and standards of care.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient charts including vital signs and patient assessments.
• Initiate corrective action whenever the information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomology.
• Prepare and administer medication as prescribed and record the administered medications.
• Report adverse reactions to medications or treatments following the policy regarding the administration of medications.
• Provide basic bedside nursing care.
• Collaborate professionally with the agencies involved with the Emergency Department, and report any suspected abuse to appropriate agencies.
• Maintain proper supplies and adequate medical equipment to care for patients.
• Display professionalism with completing multiple urgent tasks promptly.
• Initiate patient education as prescribed by the physician or licensed provider to include teaching patients and significant others about illness/injury, by explaining post-treatment homecare needs, diet/nutrition/exercise, self-administering medication, and rehabilitation, as well as providing referral information for follow-up treatment.
• Record all care information concisely, accurately, and entirely, in a timely manner in the appropriate format and on appropriate forms or in the electronic health record.
• Comply with all legal and safety requirements, and all hospital rules, regulations, and policies.
• Attend medical emergencies in the hospital and on hospital grounds per policy.
• Actively participate in quality improvement in the department and attend all required training and continuing education events.
• Adhere to corporate values and defined work habits of Beloit Health System.
• Keep personal medical information about patients confidential.
• Perform other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.

Requirements

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
• ADN, Diploma, BSN, or MSN degree acceptable.
• State of Wisconsin nursing licensure or permit required.
• State of Illinois nursing licensure or permit required (NorthPointe).
• Must be CPR certified within three months of hire.
• Successful ACLS completion within six months of hire.
• Successful PALS completion within one year of hire.
• TNCC or TNS highly recommended.
• Strong ability to deal with patients and families in various states of illness, pain, trauma, shock, and tragedy. This includes being a good listener and an excellent communicator to help keep everyone calm and help patients and families understand the situation.

Schedule

12-hour shifts, varied start time; 36 hours per week. Shifts may include 1st/2nd varied or 3rd shift.
