Job Summary

The Registered Nurse plans, coordinates and implements patient care specific to the age of the patient population in the Emergency Department. He/she assures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with the department’s standards of care and the Standards of Emergency Nursing Practice. He/she demonstrates performance consistent with the mission, philosophy and goals of the unit and the organization; remains flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice; and treats staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Licensure/Registration/Certification:
    • Current license as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
    • BLS upon hire.
    • ACLS within 1 year of hire or transfer.
    • PALS within 2 years of hire or transfer.
    • NALS/NRP recommended and desired.
    • CERTIFICATION: NALS/NRP recommended and desired.
    • TNCC recommended.
    • CEN certification desired.
  • Work Experience: 1 year medical/surgical nursing experience required. Current knowledge and skills appropriate to the age/type of patient population served. Must meet clinical competency standards specific to Emergency Department patients.

Working Conditions

  • Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity
  • Occupational: Significant occupational risk
  • Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force
  • Physical Environment: Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
