About the role

The position involves providing safe, quality care to patients in the Emergency Department using the nursing process as the basis for clinical practice. The role includes making staff assignments, mentoring staff, and facilitating workflow.

Responsibilities

• Makes staff assignments that reflect patient acuity, continuity of patient care, staff competency, and the necessity of admit, transfer, and discharge activity.
• Mentors staff, float, and agency personnel regarding unit/department/hospital policies, procedures/standards, and annual goals and objectives.
• Maintains awareness of Joint Commission standards, state codes, and practice acts.
• Maintains fiscal responsibility by monitoring and adjusting staffing during shift and determining staffing needs for the following shift by utilizing sound clinical judgment.
• Communicates and collaborates with bed placement and the clinical resource to ensure clinical placement is expedited.

Requirements

Prerequisites include a BSN preferred, current RN license, successful completion of a graduate nurse residency program orientation or six months' experience as a Registered Nurse, and AHA BLS for healthcare providers required. Additional certifications may be required based on department-specific requirements.
