About the role
The Registered Nurse at Behavioral Health Center at Porter Health Village will lead patient care activities, assess patients, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes. This position requires a strong understanding of psychiatric disorders and the ability to provide appropriate nursing interventions.
Responsibilities
- Utilizes the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation
- Identifies risk levels, precautions, and expected outcomes individualized to the client
- Prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes
- Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions in relation to expected outcomes
- Counsels patients on prescribed medications
- Administers medications safely
- Documents care, progress, response to intervention in medical record in an accurate, thorough and concise manner
- Communicates incomplete assignments and current client needs to staff to assure continuity of care
- Implements staff assignments and delegation of duties using appropriate judgment and knowledge
- Adapts to a high stress environment and assess potential for patient escalation
Requirements
- Current, valid, and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of employment
- Minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing
- One year of inpatient hospital experience strongly preferred
- Ability to adapt to a high stress environment and assess potential for patient escalation
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written
- Understanding and sensitivity to serve culturally diverse and special needs population such as Chronically Mentally Ill, Geriatric, CD
- Self-confidence and ability to think conceptually in leading and directing others
- Successfully completes CPR certification and an Oceans approved behavioral health de-escalation program
Qualifications / Skills Requirements
- Knowledge of psychiatric disorders and appropriate nursing interventions
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Understands and applies basic knowledge of normal physical and emotional development
- Exhibits critical thinking abilities and applies them for continuous improvement of patient care
- Positive willingness to assist staff and patients
- Functions as an advocate for patient needs/safety
