About the Role

Provides planning and delivery of direct and indirect patient care through the nursing process of Assessment, Planning, Intervention, and Evaluation at Kindred Hospital Bay Area - St. Petersburg and Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU), a 95-bed facility offering extended recovery care. The hospital includes 82 long-term acute care beds and a 13-bed ARU for patients recovering from acute injuries, impairments, or illnesses. Located south of downtown St. Petersburg, the facility offers 24-hour clinical care and stunning waterfront views with easy access to public transit.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains the standard of nursing care and implements hospital and nursing department policies and procedures.
  • Directs, supervises, provides, and evaluates nursing care; assigns or delegates tasks based on patient needs, potential for harm, and staff scope of practice.
  • Documents patient admission assessments, care plans, and other pertinent information in the medical record according to nursing standards.
  • Performs assessments on all patients upon admission and as per policy; makes referrals to other disciplines based on assessment findings.
  • Develops and updates nursing care plans in coordination with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team; revises plans based on patient response to treatment.
  • Assesses and reassesses pain, utilizing appropriate pain management techniques and educating patients and families on pain management.
  • Performs patient care considering age-specific needs; administers medication using the five rights of medication administration to reduce errors.
  • Formulates and evaluates teaching plans based on identified learning needs, including family in the process as appropriate.
  • Assists physicians with examinations, treatments, and special procedures; performs services within scope of practice.
  • Treats patients and families with respect and dignity; addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs.
  • Functions as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers; involves patient/family in care planning.
  • Interprets patient data to identify age-specific needs and provides appropriate care.
  • Ensures patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical errors; initiates or assists with emergency measures for sudden adverse developments.
  • Answers telephones, call lights, and paging systems; anticipates patient needs and makes rounds of assigned patients.
  • Consults other departments to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient care.
  • Provides end-of-shift reports, ensures narcotics are counted, documentation is complete, and physician orders are signed off.
  • Communicates clearly with management, co-workers, and physicians; identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and families.
  • Participates in the orientation and training of new personnel; manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Postsecondary certificate, diploma, or graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice or Compact State Licensure (required upon hire).
  • Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification (required upon hire).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (preferred upon hire).
  • Six months of Medical/Surgical nursing experience in an acute care setting (preferred).
  • Experience demonstrating critical thinking, decision-making, and effective prioritization in a fast-paced clinical environment (preferred).
  • Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
  • Basic computer knowledge; ability to organize tasks, develop action plans, and function under stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships within and across departments.
  • Must read, write, and speak fluent English; must have good and regular attendance.
