About This Role
As a Day Surgery RN at NVRH, you will provide high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals undergoing surgical and procedural interventions in both the pre-operative and post-anesthesia (Phase II recovery) settings. Working in a fast-paced perioperative environment, you will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe patient flow from admission through discharge while maintaining a strong focus on patient experience, safety, and regulatory compliance. Day Surgery nurses, once trained, may also serve as a second nurse in PACU and may float to Pain Management as needed.
Responsibilities
- Deliver pre-operative care including assessment, preparation, and patient education, as well as post-anesthesia Phase II recovery and discharge readiness evaluation
- Monitor patient condition, identify changes, and communicate effectively with providers to ensure safe, timely care
- Ensure accurate documentation, review diagnostic results, and provide discharge instructions and follow-up guidance
- Collaborate with surgical, anesthesia, and perioperative teams to optimize patient flow and support efficient daily operations
- Uphold patient safety and regulatory standards, including adherence to AORN, ASPAN, CMS, and organizational protocols
Requirements
- Graduate of an approved RN School of Nursing
- Current Vermont or multi-state RN license required
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association required
- ACLS required (or ability to obtain during orientation)
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience preferred; ambulatory surgery, perioperative, or acute care experience preferred
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment
