Registered Nurse, CVICU

About the role

The registered professional nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect total nursing care of assigned patients and the supervision of assigned personnel. The position requires knowledge of department and hospital policies and procedures relevant to nursing care, interpretive skills, frequent interactive and consultative associations, management and supervisory abilities, and the ability to retrieve, communicate, or present information in written, auditory, or visual form. The primary method for expressing or exchanging ideas is through spoken word, with written, telephone, and manual dexterity skills also required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect total nursing care for assigned patients.
• Supervise assigned personnel.
• Apply department and hospital policies and procedures relevant to nursing care delivery.
• Utilize interpretive skills in patient care.
• Engage in frequent interactive and consultative associations with patients, families, and staff.
• Exercise management and supervisory skills.
• Retrieve, communicate, or present information in written, auditory, or visual formats.
• Use spoken word as the primary method to express or exchange ideas.
• Apply written, telephone, and manual dexterity skills as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's in Nursing required.
• One year of Nursing/Patient Care in an acute care setting required.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions required, or Compact State Licensure in Nursing required.
• BLS certification required.

Qualifications

Registered Nurses on designated units must maintain certain certifications. New-to-practice-area nurses or new graduates have one year to complete the specialty requirements below.

• ACLS – ED, ICU, CVICU, Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiopulmonary Rehab, Bronch Suite, Interventional Radiology, Radiology Safety Nurses, Step down Units (3A, 3B, 4B), 6A, 6B, 7A, Labor and Delivery, Hemodialysis, Respiratory Therapy, Float pool, GI Unit, and PACU.
• PALS – PACU Pediatric Nurses, ED.
• NRP – NICU, Mother Baby, Labor and Delivery.
• De‑escalation training – BHU, ED.
• Per policy, current ACLS or PALS certification satisfies the BLS requirement; a separate BLS certification is not needed.
