Registered Nurse Coronary Intensive Care Unit

Professional caregiver responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in the Coronary Intensive Care Unit (CICU). Utilizes the nursing process through technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice, and coordination with the health team.

About the role

The CICU is a 16-bed ICU specializing in medically managed cardiac patients, including cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, STEMI, rule out MI, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, TAVR, and unstable post-cardiac Cath lab PCI patients. The unit manages advanced therapies such as SWANs, CRRT, Impella, LVADs, and ventilators. Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:2, with 1:1 for critical patients. Critical Care Techs assist with duties including Foley insertion, IVs, and central line dressing changes. The CICU team responds to all codes at Intermountain Medical Center.

Responsibilities

• Perform appropriate assessment of physical, social, and psychological status, including cognitive, communicative, and developmental skills.
• Seek and evaluate information from interdisciplinary team members, patients, families, physicians, and support staff.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans using critical thinking and collaboration with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
• Direct and delegate care consistent with the plan, guidelines, and professional licensure provisions.
• Set priorities, coordinate, and organize patient care delivery through effective time, supply, and resource management.
• Evaluate patient response to interventions, revise care plans as needed, and assess clinical outcomes and satisfaction.
• Promote the nursing profession, participate in the development of others, and integrate legal and ethical standards into practice.

Requirements

• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice.
• Valid compact licenses must be transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of employment.
• RNs with less than 12 months of experience must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four years of hire.
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
• Licensed RN experience in an ICU and/or high-acuity setting preferred.
• One year of licensed RN experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (required as of 4/27/2025).

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment.
• Frequent verbal communication with patients, families, and care providers, including during emergencies.
• Manual dexterity for complex equipment operation, including computers and medication preparation.
• Lifting and transferring patients, bending, retrieving, and carrying supplies and equipment of varying weights.
• Walking, pushing, and pulling gurneys and portable equipment, often in crowded or busy environments.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.

Schedule

Full time, 36 hours per week, variable shifts.

Pay

Hourly rate: $35.22 - $53.29, dependent upon experience.
