Registered Nurse Coordinator CVOR

About the Role

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center. The employee shall support the strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities. Utilizing the nursing process and clinical nursing practice standards, the RN is responsible for directing and coordinating nursing care for the CVOR patient in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Surgical Services and the Nursing Departments.

The CVOR Operating Room RN Service Line Coordinator functions within their primary role of Circulator and/or Scrub with the additional responsibility of Service Coordinator. Responsibilities include completing accurate and timely information on the Doctor’s Preference Card, coordinating the activities of the Specialty Service, overseeing equipment/supply needs, and functioning as a liaison between the Executive Director, specialty team, and medical staff. The role also involves creating an image of quality service, demonstrating critical thinking, problem-solving, tact, diplomacy, discretion, and judgment.

Additional duties include overseeing a cross-training program with the main OR, supporting the robotic heart program, and overseeing the development and implementation of new programs for the cardiac service line.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes the nursing process and AORN standards as a framework for the management of patient care.
• Analyzes assessment data to determine a nursing diagnosis and appropriate interventions.
• Demonstrates leadership in the coordination of patient care across the healthcare continuum with progress towards meeting desired patient outcomes.
• Delegates to licensed and unlicensed personnel.
• Demonstrates the ability to utilize effective critical thinking skills and prioritizes essential functions.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical information system and applies principles to patient documentation.
• Contributes to an effective and safe working environment.
• Formulates a teaching plan based on identified patient learning needs and evaluates the effectiveness of learning; includes family in the teaching plan as necessary.
• Serves as a role model and mentors new staff members.
• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of all sensitive materials.
• Demonstrates good customer service skills by managing and acknowledging patient, family, and significant other expectations with tact, sensitivity, and discretion.
• Demonstrates the ability to integrate knowledge of job-specific competencies.
• Ability to maintain punctuality, follow company policies, and interact positively and constructively.
• Ability to prioritize and multitask effectively.

Requirements

• Must have 5 years of cardiac surgery experience with the ability to scrub and circulate all heart surgery procedures.
• Current California RN license required.
• Current BLS for Healthcare Providers card required.
• ACLS certification preferred.
• Current CNOR highly preferred.
• Computer, internet, order entry, and word processing experience preferred.

Pay

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Pay range: $51.99 - $81.50 per hour.

A $10,000 signing bonus is available to external hires new to MHS employment, contingent upon satisfaction of employment requirements.

In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities.
