Registered Nurse, Compliance Inspector, Acute & Nursing Facilities (HP III) HFEMSD.

About the role

The Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division (HFEMSD) is responsible for overseeing and enforcing federal and state statutes and regulations pertaining to various health care facilities and services in Colorado. This includes hospitals, clinics, ambulatory surgical facilities, renal dialysis centers, emergency medical services providers, trauma centers, long-term care facilities, and other specific types of health care services.

This work unit ensures that health care facilities operate in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, protects the health and safety of patients/residents, and provides information about health care facilities to the public.

Responsibilities

• Determines whether health care facilities are operating in compliance with applicable statutes and regulations.
• Evaluates and assesses the quality of care, services, and treatment provided by health care facilities through observations, interviews, and record reviews.
• Conducts nursing observations and medication passes as required by the RN.
• Reviews occurrences and incidents of serious deficiencies and assesses whether licensed health facilities intervened appropriately.
• Writes clear, concise, and legally defensible statements of deficiencies based on survey/investigation results.
• Advises, counsels, and provides guidance to facility/agency administrators/staff regarding the purpose/reason for regulations and how to/or why areas are non-compliant.
• Attends meetings, serves on task forces or teams, completes projects, and performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Minimum Qualifications: Six (6) years of applicable health care experience in a facility or program regulated by the Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division, nursing facility, or related experience, and current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
• Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in fundamental computer skills, experience with evaluating health care facility quality, conducting interviews, analyzing evidence, and writing legally defensible statements of deficiencies.

Qualifications

• Education and Experience: A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in applicable health care in a facility or program regulated by the Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division, nursing facility, or closely related experience equal to six (6) years AND valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
