About the role
The Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division (HFEMSD) oversees and enforces federal and state statutes and regulations applicable to healthcare facilities and services in Colorado. This includes hospitals, clinics, ambulatory surgical facilities, renal dialysis centers, emergency medical services providers, trauma centers, long-term care facilities, and other specific types of healthcare services.
Responsibilities
- Determines compliance with applicable statutes and regulations.
- Evaluates and assesses health care facility quality of care, services, and treatment of residents/patients.
- Writes clear, concise, and legally defensible statements of deficiencies based on analysis of findings.
- Selects residents for inclusion in surveys and directs survey/investigation plans.
- Serves on task forces or teams, completes projects, and attends meetings as assigned.
Requirements
- Experience in health care in a facility or program regulated by HFEMSD.
- A current, valid RN license from the Colorado Board of Nursing or an eNLC participating state.
- Relevant experience with the State of Colorado, clinical experience in acute care, specialized units, home health, hospice, or home care.
- Experience evaluating quality of care, adverse events, incident reviews, and corrective action/POC validation.
- Ability to interpret EMR reports, staffing/scheduling data, and quality indicators to target probes and corroborate findings.
- Knowledge of agency operations, governance, QAPI, supervision, delegation, and how they impact bedside outcomes.
- Experience serving as a resource/educator to providers on regulatory expectations and sustainable remediation.
Qualifications
- Education in Nursing, Public Health, Social Work, or closely related field, and/or relevant experience in health care.
- Substantiated work experience in health care in a facility or program regulated by HFEMSD.
Skills
- Interprets EMR reports, staffing/scheduling data, and quality indicators to target probes and corroborate findings.
- Skilled in trauma-informed and stakeholder-appropriate interviewing (clients, families, staff, external practitioners).
- Clear regulatory narratives, evidence grids, and decision memos that withstand appeal or legal scrutiny.
- Understands agency operations (governance, QAPI, supervision, delegation) and how they impact bedside outcomes.
- Experienced in serving as a resource/educator to providers on regulatory expectations and sustainable remediation.

Pay
Salary range: $60,000 - $80,000 annually.
Schedule
Hybrid workplace options available, at the discretion of the supervisor and based on business needs. The employee will still be required to report to the agency address listed on this announcement.
