About the role

The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS) is seeking 1 highly skilled/experienced Registered Nurses (RN) for our busy In-Patient Community Living Centers (CLC), for Day Shift. The RN will utilize the nursing process to assess, coordinate, facilitate & deliver nursing care for patients utilizing the nursing process. Located in Los Angeles, CA.

Responsibilities

• Safely and effectively uses patient care equipment including appropriate cleaning of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) per facility policy and procedures
• Recognizes overt abnormal signs and symptoms and/or changes in patients' condition and responds appropriately
• Implements physician's/provider's orders in a timely and complete manner
• Implements nursing interventions/orders in a timely and complete manner
• Completes initial assessment of patient condition and response to treatment and initiates follow-up as needed
• Includes the patient and family/significant other in developing the initial plan or care and establishing goals
• Develops and implements a plan to meet learning needs, instructing patients and families in basic health teaching and discharge planning
• Documentation is consistent, accurate, concise, and timely
• Revises plan or care according to evaluations of patient's responses and outcomes
• Organizes and completes own assignments in a safe and timely manner, assisting team members as necessary
• Can recognize the patient has a problem
• Can manage the problem safely and effectively, recognizing his/her scope of practice
• Recognizes situations that require urgent response
• Takes the right action for the right reason
• Demonstrates compliance with infection control practices, such as hand washing and wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment
• Demonstrates safe work practices. Complies with safety rules and regulations for safe job performance and fire protection

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

• English Language Proficiency
• Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
• Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program.
• Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements, but do not possess the required licensure, may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case-basis).

Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (45 lbs and over); Heavy carrying (45 lbs and over); Straight pulling and pushing; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking and standing up to 8 hours; repeated bending; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
