About the role

This position is responsible for providing nursing service to patients in a professional and courteous manner in an Urgent Care setting. Responsibilities include carrying out physician orders, assisting with procedures, administering injections, performing phlebotomy, taking patient calls, cleaning and stocking exam rooms, calling in prescriptions, coordinating supply levels, pre-certifying patients' medical services, and assisting the physician with all other patient care as requested.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, monitor, and role model the delivery of patient care as ordered by the physician/primary care provider for diverse patient populations (infant, child, adolescent, adult, geriatric).
• Demonstrate competence in implementing physician/primary care provider orders using nursing policies and procedures.
• Plan and coordinate teaching methods and content with the primary care provider to achieve desired outcomes.
• Deliver nursing services collaboratively with family/patient, physicians, and other health care team members; delegate or refer to partners as appropriate.
• Administer medications according to nursing policy, detect errors, and seek information about new or unfamiliar drugs and procedures before administration.
• Perform treatments and procedures according to nursing policy and ensure physicians’ orders are transcribed and carried out.
• Demonstrate knowledge of disease processes, events, activities, and changes in policies/procedures affecting practice.
• Assist with the evaluation of patient care according to established standards and meet unit-specific critical elements.
• Document nursing services in compliance with standards/policies, including medication administration.
• Embody behaviors, philosophies, and values that uphold the ideals and enhance the image of Lexington Medical Center, including respecting the patient’s “Bill of Rights.”
• Identify educational needs and maintain current knowledge with at least 12 hours of continuing education per year; participate in peer review as requested.
• Contribute to resource needs planning to ensure safe and effective operations by prioritizing care, delegating tasks, and managing care delivered by others.
• Manage time efficiently and predict patient care hours needed based on assessment.
• Evaluate and provide input into the selection of new products, coordinate treatments for cost-effective care, and collaborate on supply/equipment acquisition.
• Utilize equipment/supplies efficiently, charge appropriately, and report malfunctioning equipment or patient safety matters.
• Communicate effectively using electronic systems, coordinate with healthcare teams, delegate assignments clearly, and use the chain of command.
• Keep patients/families informed about tests, treatments, progress, and discharge plans; teach self/family-supported care in an understandable manner.
• Participate in Quality Assessment and Improvement activities, including monitoring patient care, evaluating new systems/products/processes, and contributing ideas to supervisors or committees.
• Attend yearly Safety Training and employee health workups; demonstrate safe practices for self, patients, and coworkers.
• Exhibit professionalism through punctuality, positive communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, telephone courtesy, and confidentiality.

Requirements

• Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Required Certifications/Licensure: Currently licensed by the South Carolina State Board of Nursing; ACLS certification required within 1 year of hire; Certification in CPR.
