Registered Nurse Clinical Leader Behavioral Health

Provides leadership and clinical expertise during assigned shift and within the department. Manages unit resources and supervises personnel to ensure appropriate staffing levels based on patient needs, both clinically and financially. Serves as clinical support for staff and exemplifies competency and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Conducts thorough evaluations of physical, social, and psychological status, including cognitive, communication, and developmental skills when necessary.
• Gathers and assesses information from the interdisciplinary team: patient, family, physician, non-nursing professionals, support staff, and others.
• Models and fosters an environment of professionalism and employee engagement on the unit.
• Advocates for nursing teams in respective practice areas and supports key messaging and priority initiatives.
• Sets priorities and coordinates department’s patient care delivery through effective time, supply, and resource management, including scheduling caregivers and approving/denying time off requests.
• Forecasts, develops, and communicates accurate information on admission, discharge, and transfer to ensure appropriate patient placement.
• Evaluates and promotes staff competency, performance, and compliance with policies and procedures through performance reviews, peer reviews, caregiver recognition, and corrective action.
• Develops and implements plans to move staff from novice to expert nurses in areas of practice, clinical competency, and patient experience.
• Integrates legal and ethical standards into practice, complies with regulatory standards, and provides accurate & timely documentation.
• Makes and/or recommends decisions related to staffing, hiring, candidate evaluation, new hire orientation, and caregiver retention.
• Ensures staffing levels and skill levels match census and acuities, assigning responsibilities appropriate to individual caregivers’ experience.
• Assists staff members with direct patient care as needed.
• Shares responsibility for day-to-day operations, promoting safety, quality, and experience for patients and caregivers.
• Oversees staff competency, including annual skills updates, ongoing educational in-services, and mandatory educational requirements.
• Manages oversight accountabilities for ongoing programs (e.g., patient experience, continuous improvement).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Current Nursing License to practice as a Registered Nurse in state of practice. Valid compact licenses must be transferred within 60 days of employment start.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (verified). Registered Nurses (RNs) in this role must obtain a BSN within four years of hire or promotion date.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience in assigned clinical area.

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.
• Frequent interactions requiring verbal communication, hearing, and understanding spoken information, alarms, and needs quickly and accurately, especially during emergencies.
• Manual dexterity to manipulate complex and delicate equipment, including frequent computer use and typing for documentation and medication preparation.
• Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients, including bending to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights.
• Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining/distributing supplies, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment.
• Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms with equipment and power cords.
• May be expected to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
• For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle, requiring sitting, seeing, and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Pay

$45.31 - $67.01 per hour, dependent upon experience.
