Unit Overview

The Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) is a 16-bed unit that provides care to patients requiring extended observation after an initial evaluation in the Emergency Department. It is a highly collaborative space designed to support rapid care delivery and decision-making for discharge home or transition to an inpatient setting. This unit works closely with an assigned provider team to focus on excellence in care delivery with a goal of a length of stay of less than 24 hours. The CDU offers cardiac monitoring capabilities and accepts a broad range of diagnoses, often serving as an overflow for general medical patients from the Emergency Department. ED leadership provides oversight, and employees are cross-trained in both settings and must complete ACLS certification, Critical Care Nursing Course, and NIHSS during orientation.

Education/Experience Required

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Current licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing. Additional certifications such as ACLS, Critical Care Nursing Course, and NIHSS may be required during orientation.
