Registered Nurse - CICU (0.9 FTE, Nights)

No pediatrics experience? No problem! If you have experience working with adult populations, we will provide training on working with pediatric patients and their families while leveraging the adult RN experience you already have. We will personalize an orientation just for you to set you up for success in the pediatric specialty you are hired for.

About the role

This CICU is a 24-bed unit quaternary care referral center for four states: Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho (WAMI region). Patients cared for are newborns up to young adults with acquired and congenital heart disease. The CICU supports robust mechanical circulatory assist and cardiac transplant programs. Specialized care provided in the CICU includes cerebral oximetry monitoring, inhaled nitric oxide, temporary pacemakers, heart failure management, open chest procedures, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). Extracorporeal life support represents a highly specialized form of cardiopulmonary support that includes the use of ECMO and ventricular assist devices (VAD).

As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and adheres to Seattle Children's policies/procedures and guidelines of care. Responsible for providing safe, family-centered patient care. Using the Nursing Care Process, the RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in a collaborative method with the patient and patient's family, significant others, and members of the health care team. May be required to provide supervision and delegation of tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and others as defined by the State Administrative Code. Assists in meeting Seattle Children's strategic goals by incorporating the initiatives to support the strategic plans into the daily work, i.e., Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), Value-Based Behaviors, Error Prevention, Patient Safety, Workforce Community, and Connection, etc.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, family-centered patient care using the Nursing Care Process.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care collaboratively with the patient, family, and healthcare team.
• Supervise and delegate tasks to Nurse Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and others as defined by the State Administrative Code.
• Support Seattle Children's strategic goals, including Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), Value-Based Behaviors, Error Prevention, Patient Safety, and Workforce Community.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Washington State RN License or other current state license that the RN is required to work in.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers at the time of hire, unless the incumbent possesses a current appropriate Life Support Education required for their practice area. BLS must be maintained in current status until the incumbent obtains the appropriate Life Support Education required for their practice area.
• Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Providers. ACLS will not be accepted as a substitute.
• Nurses working in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit are required to successfully obtain PALS within 3 months of employment and maintain it at all times.
• For nurses performing moderately complex point-of-care testing, a copy of a diploma or transcript of the highest level of academic achievement must be on record with Human Resources upon hire. For personnel trained outside of the U.S., records of diploma/transcript must provide documented equivalency evaluation by a foreign credentialing agency.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a pediatric-related healthcare setting or a specific area of nursing may be required for specific departments.
• Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
• Preferred pediatric healthcare nursing experience.
• Preferred 2 years of pediatric acute care, Adult ICU, or PICU experience.

Pay

Compensation range: $51.60 - $91.30 per hour. This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.

This compensation range is specific to Seattle; positions located outside of Seattle may be compensated differently depending on various factors.
