About the Role

This position is located at California State Prison, Sacramento – Sacramento County in Represa, CA. Main communication for this position will be through email.

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented in response to the status of the State budget. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 17, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.

Under the supervision of the Supervising Registered Nurse II/III, Correctional Facility (CF), the incumbent serves as a designated member of the institution’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), an interdisciplinary team established pursuant to departmental policy. The incumbent RN provides emergent, in-person crisis assessment and intervention services to patients experiencing acute psychiatric distress, including suicidal ideation, self-injurious behavior, psychosis, severe mood or anxiety symptoms, trauma-related symptoms, and behavioral decompensation, as close to the patient’s housing unit as operationally feasible, in collaboration with mental health clinicians, custody supervisory staff, and in consultation with psychiatry.

Responsibilities

• Organize and provide necessary nursing care in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and program requirements in a variety of correctional health care settings.
• Serve as a designated member of the institution’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), providing emergent, in-person crisis assessment and intervention services to patients experiencing acute psychiatric distress.
• Collaborate with mental health clinicians, custody supervisory staff, and psychiatry to ensure delivery of appropriate and timely health care to patients.
• Coordinate interdisciplinary communication to promote continuity of care.
• Address the ongoing health care needs of patients and promote the timely, efficient, and appropriate use of health care resources.
