Location: Rochester, MN (downtown Gonda building) – this role is not remote.

About the role

Registered Nurses in the Center for Sleep Medicine (CSM) work with a multidisciplinary team specialized in the management of sleep disorders. The primary focus of the nursing role is two-fold:

  • Improve patient outcomes through chronic-disease management education and assessment of treatment response to the established plan of care.
  • Facilitate direct support of physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) by managing ongoing patient-care issues for established patients, thereby optimizing physician/APP availability for new consultations and complex decision-making.

All patient phone calls, secured messaging, and prescription requests are triaged to the nurses. The RN is accountable for the delivery of direct patient care and phone care, including patient assessment, education, and care interventions.

This position follows weekday, daytime hours (Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care.
  • Support professional nursing practice across practice settings and the continuum of care to meet patient and family needs.
  • Function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
  • Provide leadership through preceptor roles, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality-improvement efforts.
  • Delegate patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and availability of resources.
  • Mentor and teach colleagues; participate on committees or projects.
  • Triage all patient phone calls, secured messages, and prescription requests.
  • Assess, educate, and intervene in patient care both in-person and via phone.

A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as part of their role responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a nursing program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), or National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
  • One year of RN experience required.
  • All entry-level associate-degree RNs with a start date of April 1, 2020, or later must provide documented evidence of completion of a baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited program within five years of their RN start date.
  • All entry-level associate-degree RNs with a start date prior to April 1, 2020, must provide documented evidence of completion of a baccalaureate degree in nursing as stipulated by the degree-requirement program in place at the time of hire.

Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within clinical and/or research settings.
  • Computer and keyboarding skills.
  • Effective problem-solving, independent work, communication, and team-participation skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to function independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to coordinate schedules and maintain efficient patient flow in a busy setting.
  • Experience working with all age groups (infancy through elderly).

Internal applicants are required to attach their three most recent performance appraisals.

Licensure and Certification

  • Current RN license by applicable state requirements (must be obtained prior to start date).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include:
    • American Heart Association (AHA)/Heartcode® BLS
    • Military Training Network
    • Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers)
  • Additional state licensure(s) and/or specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Pay
