Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Surgery Stepdown Unit

About the role
This spring we will offer our new and advanced Virtual Connected Care™ Together Team nursing model that integrates experienced telemedicine RNs into care assignments, helping with the workload. The D4 Cardiovascular Surgical Step-Down Team provides care for patients after cardiac and vascular surgery. Our nationally recognized team is ranked in the top 10% of cardiac surgery programs in the nation. Healthgrades recipient for Cardiac Surgery Excellence, Five-Star recipient for Valve Surgery, and one of America’s 50 best hospitals for Cardiac Surgery.
Our elite staff delivers care in a team-based approach that includes the management of antiarrhythmic continuous medications, advanced respiratory modalities, temporary pacemakers, chest tubes, and more. We offer specialized classes to ensure confidence and competence in EKG interpretation (Class 1 Telemetry), emergency scenarios, peritoneal dialysis, and utilization of advanced modalities.
D4 offers flexible self-scheduling that allows for work/life balance while meeting the needs of the unit. We provide a robust full-time orientation that includes consistent preceptors, leadership check-ins, and experiences including operating room shadows for our service line. St. Joseph’s also offers continuous educational opportunities aligned with our Clinical Ladder, including Preceptor Workshop, Charge training, and certification reimbursement.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate, communicate, and facilitate optimal provision of care through computerized and/or digital platforms supporting daily management of care.
- Assess, plan, implement, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate the patient's plan of care from admission to discharge.
- Utilize clinical knowledge, critical thinking skills, and principles of case management and adult education to coordinate, implement, and support the plan of care.
- Monitor quality metrics specific to the department and ensure complete and accurate documentation in the patient record.
- Ensure quality care is rendered to all patients in accordance with New York Regulatory Agencies, National Standards of Practice, and Nursing and Clinical Service standards of care and practice.
- Maintain current knowledge of basic health care economics, trends, and reimbursement methodologies and apply this knowledge to daily practice.
- Recognize situations that require immediate intervention.
- Continue professional development and apply knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to each patient.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure in the State of New York.
- Baccalaureate Degree in the Science of Nursing (BSN) preferred, according to NYS requirements.
- Specialty credentialing and educational degree according to clinical nursing practice specialty area preferred.
- Maintain all licensures and certifications according to NYS regulations and specialty area requirements.
- Participate in continuing education and update and maintain knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.
GNs or RNs with less than 1 year of experience should apply to the Graduate Nurse Residency positions.

Pay
Pay range: $39.90 - $55.85 per hour, based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may vary based on location.
