About the Role
7 East is a 32-bed unit providing services to older adolescent, adult, and older adult cardiac patients, including acute and chronic Heart Failure patients, as well as medical-surgical patients who require cardiac monitoring. The average patient age is 64. Patients on the unit require close and frequent assessment and skillful, timely clinical interventions to achieve their treatment goals.
This is a full-time, rotating shift position with options for Day/Night, Day/Evening rotations, and 12-hour night shifts. Every other weekend and every other holiday work is required for full-time and part-time team members.
Responsibilities
- Gather and analyze patient information.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise an individualized plan of care.
- Use teach-back methodology to educate patients and families.
- Actively seek to prevent potential hospital-acquired conditions.
- Effectively communicate patient status, priority goals, and interventions during consultations, rounds, and handoffs.
- Follow all HIPAA policies and procedures.
- Behave in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of St. Joseph Mercy Hospitals.
Requirements
- Graduation from a school of nursing that qualifies the graduate to sit for the NCLEX exam to become licensed as a Registered Nurse. BSN preferred.
- Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) License.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required for Float Pool, Cardiac/Cath Lab, AICU, and Emergency departments.
- Effective January 1, 2013, all new hires must have a BSN degree or agree in writing to obtain their BSN within five years of hire or transfer to an RN role.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of nursing theory, practice, and age-specific needs.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to initiate and maintain collegial relationships with coworkers and therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Critical thinking skills to perform principal duties and responsibilities.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when planning and performing professional nursing care.
- Experienced Canadian Registered Nurses are encouraged to apply.
