Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care, including examination and treatment, under an approved protocol.
  • Evaluate outcomes and adjust nursing care processes as needed to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Evaluate patient medical records and assess lab data to ensure patient preparedness for planned procedures.
  • Ensure that necessary paperwork (electronic record) is complete to initiate procedures.
  • Utilize the nursing process to implement goal-directed nursing care for a defined group of patients.
  • Prepare procedure rooms to ensure equipment is functioning properly and maintain records of equipment used and procedures performed.
  • Monitor the medical condition of assigned patients at all times and report any patient care problems, changes in condition, or unexpected occurrences to the physician or designee.
  • Educate patients and families regarding conditions, treatments, discharge/transfer planning, and follow-up examinations; seek feedback to evaluate understanding and document accordingly.
  • Assist physicians with specialized procedures, including diagnostic, pacemaker insertion, interventional, administering medication, positioning catheters, and removing arterial and venous sheaths.
  • Anticipate and participate in emergency procedures as necessary.
  • Perform a variety of nursing skills in compliance with physician orders and established hospital policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with physicians and other departments to consult on patient status and ensure continuity of care.
  • Respond to cases of cardiopulmonary arrest, fire, disaster, or other emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for professional development by setting goals and utilizing resources such as seminars, in-service training, and journals.
  • Participate in data collection for national registries related to primary angioplasty quality assurance programs.
  • Act as a liaison between the Cardiac Cath Lab and other professional staff.
  • Maintain and order supplies as necessary to perform job duties.
  • Participate in on-call rotation.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum of three years of job-related experience or equivalent.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Rhode Island State Licensure.
  • At least three years of critical care experience.
  • Knowledge of IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump) concepts.
