Registered Nurse - Brooklyn (Residential Services)

We are currently looking for a full-time Registered Nurse to join our team supporting adults with developmental disabilities at one of our residential programs in Brooklyn. This position includes a $10,000 Sign-On Bonus and requires 1 weekend day per week, so either Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday.

About the Role

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse is responsible for providing evaluation, diagnosis, and therapeutic intervention in accordance with ADAPT Community Network policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards. The role involves monitoring treatment plans, training residential staff, and integrating therapeutic techniques into programs for individuals with developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary team, coordinating and following through on health care services for assigned residences.
• Conduct training for staff in medical administration, personal hygiene, basic first aid, dental hygiene, infection control, adaptive equipment, vital signs, and signs/symptoms of illness.
• Manage communicable diseases and infections through identification, assessment, reporting, and implementation of preventive measures, including staff training.
• Develop, supervise, review, and revise each resident’s written health care plan based on physician instructions and assessments.
• Integrate therapeutic intervention techniques into programs through consultation with guardians, staff, and team meetings.
• Develop written plans for nursing services as part of total habilitation programs for individuals supported.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and annual reviews.
• Monitor staff health records and provide required tests in accordance with regulatory agency requirements.
• Provide immediate first aid and referrals to emergency services or private physicians.
• Maintain a schedule for appointments, follow up on physicians’ recommendations, and update plans as needed.
• Keep accurate records of examinations, immunizations, illnesses, accidents, and other pertinent data.
• Administer medications when appropriate and supervise AMAP-certified staff in medication administration.
• Provide supervision and training for Licensed Practical Nurses and less experienced Registered Nurses.
• Monitor progress for self-administration of medication.
• Obtain consents for surgeries and review all diagnostic work and consultations.
• Attend team meetings, address individuals’ medical conditions, and participate in quarterly examinations.
• Stay updated on changes in the nursing field and participate in medical reviews for individuals.
• Carry an agency cell phone, be on-call, and respond to questions regarding physician treatment plans.
• Perform other related duties as requested.

Requirements

• License and current registration as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
• CPR Certification.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Knowledge of equipment typically used by persons receiving services, including wheelchairs and adaptive devices.
• Willingness to work at various program sites.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing.
• At least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse delivering community-based health services to individuals with developmental disabilities.

Pay

$57/hour - $63/hour + $10,000 Sign-On Bonus.
