Registered Nurse - Behavioral Health

About the role

Provides direct patient care to behavioral health patients in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the facility.

Primary Responsibilities

• Completes admitting and shift assessments on assigned patients, including behaviors, accurately and within the time‑frame set in policy and procedures.
• Utilizes critical thinking skills and judgment to analyze patient assessment data and notifies the physician of changes in condition.
• Participates in the development, review, and evaluation of multidisciplinary treatment plans as per policies and procedures.
• Documents all nursing care given and adheres to nursing standards and ministry policies and procedures.
• Consistently and accurately implements and records physicians’ orders.
• Assesses and monitors patients and the environment for safety within the unit.
• Serves as a clinical resource and supervises care delivered by LPNs and techs.
• Educates patients and families based on assessed needs and documents education provided in the Electronic Health Record.
• Applies evidence‑based practice and scientific knowledge to nursing practice, ensuring care is delivered based on patients’ age‑specific and clinical needs.
• Demonstrates professional nursing standards defined in the professional practice model and uses the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses to guide responses to evolving health and nursing needs.
• Works in a constant state of alertness and safety.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or education equivalency for licensing.
• No experience required.

Physical Requirements

• Constant use of speech to share information through oral communication.
• Constant standing and walking.
• Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0‑25 lb.
• Frequent sitting, reaching, and keyboard use/data entry.
• Frequent use of vision and depth perception for near (≤20 in) and far (≈20 ft) distances; ability to identify and distinguish colors.
• Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
• Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds, and hear alarms or malfunctioning machinery.
• Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25‑50 lb.
• Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
• Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
• Occasional driving.
• Rare crawling and running.

Licensure and Certifications

• Illinois: Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA) and Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
• Missouri: BLS HCP – AHA and RN – Missouri Division of Professional Registration or RN issued by a Compact State.
• Oklahoma: BLS HCP – AHA and RN – RN issued by a Compact State or RN – Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN).
• Wisconsin: BLS HCP – AHA and RN – RN issued by a Compact State or RN – Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.

Schedule

• Night Shift (United States of America).
• Scheduled weekly hours: 24.
