Registered Nurse position with the Broward Addiction Recovery Center (BARC), offering a comprehensive range of services for individuals over 18 affected by substance use and/or co-occurring disorders. Our team focuses on individual recovery, improved life management skills, enhanced interpersonal relationships, and community support involvement.

About the role

Delivers medical and nursing care to residents by assessing and evaluating their medical, psychological, and emotional needs. Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

  • Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Performs physical examinations, makes tentative diagnoses, and treats patients in triage; records medical information and vital signs.
  • Directs and supervises nursing and health care personnel or a particular unit on one shift; oversees medication administration.
  • Maintains, organizes, and issues medical supplies; attends staff, discharge planning, and case conference meetings.
  • Serves as liaison to psychiatric care providers; coordinates all psychiatric care, including scheduling and monitoring orders.
  • Admits and discharges patients; assesses medical, mental, and safety status; manages patient valuables and contraband searches.
  • Cosigns and supervises orders written by the medical director; documents medical information in computer and patient charts.
  • Maintains a safe environment; communicates with doctors, counselors, dietary staff, and outside agencies.
  • Refers patients to other agencies when facility criteria cannot be met, including urgent medical or mental health needs.
  • Obtains shift reports, records patient changes, and maintains admission/discharge tallies.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited school of nursing or equivalent specialized coursework.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification at time of hire.
  • Valid Florida Class E Driver’s License for the duration of employment.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferences

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related field.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Nursing Specialty Certification (e.g., Psych, Chemical Dependency, Addiction Counseling, Medical Surgical, Critical Care).
  • One (1) year or more of Nursing Leadership/Management experience (e.g., DON, Nurse Manager, Nurse Supervisor, Clinical Lead).
  • One (1) or more years of experience working in the community with the homeless.
  • One (1) or more years of Trauma Informed Care experience.
  • Bilingual skills.

Work Environment

Performs light work involving walking or standing most of the time, with regular exertion of up to 20 pounds of force. Routine and frequent exposure to radiation and disease/pathogens.

Schedule

Four (4) days per week from 2:00 pm - 12:00 am with variable work days (4/10 schedule, 40 hours per week).
