Employees in this classification perform responsible professional nursing care at a unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Work is performed under correctional clinic conditions; position requires a high degree of contact with patients, other clinic personnel, and outside professionals.

About the Role

Responsible for providing care to patients at the Lamesa Smith Unit. Managed Care emphasizes our values-based culture in all we do. Since 1989, TTUHSC Managed Care has served as a healthcare delivery service, providing high quality, low cost healthcare to patients within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice system. We provide medical, mental health, and dental services to patients in 22 facilities throughout West Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Administers medications as ordered, adheres to facility policy and procedure of medication administration, and maintains knowledge of appropriate dosages, reactions, and contraindications of medications.
  • Communicates patient data using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to support decision-making to improve patient care.
  • Prepares and operates necessary equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Assists in completing required documentation for incoming/outgoing patients, including obtaining accurate patient histories.
  • Inspects and monitors equipment; inspects and ensures maintenance of patient care areas, equipment, supplies, and medication refrigerator.
  • Serves as a relief charge nurse when needed, delegating tasks to lower level nursing staff.
  • Communicates with Physicians or Advanced Practice Providers as needed, and calls report when transferring patients to another unit or hospital.
  • Notifies provider(s) of any significant incidents.

Requirements

  • Current RN License in the State of Texas, or ability to transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program of nursing within 120 days of applying for a position.
  • Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program.
  • New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) on the first attempt.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $35.00 – $38.00.

Shift differential pay for night and weekend shifts:

  • Day Shift Employees: Earn an extra $4.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Night Shift Employees: Earn an extra $4.00 per hour for shifts worked Monday through Friday, and an extra $8.00 per hour for shifts worked on Saturday and Sunday.

Schedule

12-hour shifts at the Lamesa Smith Unit.
