We provide medical, mental health, and dental services to patients in 22 facilities across West Texas with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. This role is based at the Fort Stockton-Lynaugh Unit, with potential assignments to both Fort Stockton and Lynaugh clinics. The position is grant-funded and operates on a day shift schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care at the Fort Stockton-Lynaugh Unit.
  • Administer medications as ordered, adhering to facility policies and maintaining knowledge of dosages, reactions, and contraindications.
  • Communicate patient data using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to support decision-making and improve patient care.
  • Prepare and operate necessary equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Complete required documentation for incoming/outgoing patients, including obtaining accurate patient histories.
  • Inspect and monitor equipment; ensure maintenance of patient care areas, supplies, and medication refrigerators.
  • Serve as a relief charge nurse when needed, delegating tasks to lower-level nursing staff.
  • Communicate with Physicians or Advanced Practice Providers as needed, and call reports when transferring patients to another unit or hospital.
  • Notify provider(s) of any significant incidents.

Requirements

  • Current RN License in the State of Texas, or ability to transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program of nursing within 120 days of applying for a position.
  • Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program.
  • New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) on the first attempt.
  • No prior experience required.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $38.46 - $39.66.

Additional shift differential: +$3/hr on weekends.

Schedule

Day shift only: 5:00 AM - 5:30 PM, with no night shift required.
