Registered Nurse

NaphCare is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team of medical professionals in Wetumpka, Alabama, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for individuals incarcerated at the Alabama Department of Corrections-Julia Tutwiler Women's Correctional Facility. This unique position allows you to make a difference in a diverse population with complex medical needs while working in a controlled, security-focused environment. About the Role

As a Correctional Registered Nurse (RN), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to incarcerated individuals. Your days will be dynamic, with duties ranging from physical assessments and medication administration to managing chronic illnesses and responding to emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial health screenings and physical assessments of newly detained individuals.
• Monitor and document patient health, including vital signs and medical histories.
• Provide direct patient care, triage, assess needs, develop care plans, and coordinate services.
• Manage acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
• Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and ensure timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.
• Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
• Adhere to correctional facility security protocols while collaborating with correctional officers and healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety.
• Maintain accurate medical records, document treatment plans, and report relevant information.

Requirements

• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the state.
• Active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred).
• Knowledge of nursing principles, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, and applicable healthcare laws.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team, with flexibility to work overtime as needed.
• Experience interacting with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and adherence to facility policies and legal requirements.
• Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.

Physical Capabilities

• Ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and walk significant distances.
• Capable of performing physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining balance and endurance throughout a shift.
