Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing assessment and nursing care to patients in accordance with physician’s orders, policies, procedures, and processes within the scope of practice.
• Participate in the teaching of patients and family and provide leadership by working cooperatively with other healthcare team members.
• Collaborate with physicians and team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Maintain standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.
• Observe facility policies, procedures, and processes.
• Prepare patients for planned procedures and obtain medical history, including medications, allergies, and reactions.
• Carry out physician’s orders and observe the patient’s medical condition, including vital signs, affect, pain, and symptoms requiring further evaluation and treatment; escalate concerns to the physician.
• Communicate effectively with the patient and care team, relaying information to appropriate personnel concerning a patient’s condition.
• Educate patients, including providing instructions in preparation for discharge.
• Administer medications per physician order and document care appropriately.
• Supervise non-licensed personnel as assigned.
• Maintain appropriate supplies and medication.
• Assist with the preparation and performance of procedures and medical records maintenance.
• Utilize safe practices and controls to protect patients and self from infection and exposure.
• Maintain patient privacy, confidentiality, and rights at all times.
• Maintain positive and effective interpersonal relationships.
• Report and document any unusual occurrences and incidents in a timely manner.
• Utilize proper body mechanics while lifting.
• Serve as a clinical resource and demonstrate professional accountability.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED certificate recipient.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Active RN license in the state where work will be conducted.
• BLS and ACLS certification.
• Current Pre-op/PACU experience (within the past 2 years).
• Ability to make sound nursing judgments based on nursing theory.
• Demonstrates primary nurse accountability through coordination, communication, and continuity of patient care.
• Ability to assess, prioritize, plan, and implement direct patient care.
• Assumes responsibility for competency of practice and takes initiative for professional development and continuing education.
• Working knowledge and experience in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center, including direct patient care.
• Ability to adhere to work schedule and manage time appropriately.
• Ability to utilize resources in a timely, organized, and cost-effective manner.
• Knowledge of patient monitoring equipment.
