Registered Nurse

About the Role

Under the general supervision of the Clinic Administrator or Physician, and according to established procedures, provides care to patients and families. Responsible and accountable for the care provided regardless of whether it is provided solely by said nurse or by the nurse and others under his/her supervision. Implements and coordinates the steps of the nursing process, involves the patient in decision making relative to care, and is responsible for making nursing care judgements and acting upon them.

Collaborates with Physicians in the management of prescribed medical plan of care, including implementation of the physician-prescribed regimen, evaluation of patient response, and communication of changes in the patient’s status. Functions under protocols that extend responsibilities for medical management activities. Coordinates the patient plan of care with nurses, Physicians, and other members of the Health Team and agencies within the community to provide an integrated and comprehensive approach to care delivery.

Responsible for participating in educational, quality assurance, and research activities. Acts as a consultant, sharing clinical expertise and knowledge with other healthcare providers and community members. Performs clinical management functions specifically delegated by the Clinical Manager and participates in organizational planning and decision-making affecting patient care and Ambulatory Service operations. Practices within the framework of the philosophy, objectives, policies, procedures, and standards of the Hospital and its remote Ambulatory centers.

Responsibilities

• Meets and maintains competence as defined by the clinical service experience and credential requirements; provides nursing care to patients.
• Implements and coordinates the steps of the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, prescription, intervention, and evaluation.
• Delegates, supervises, and coordinates nursing care activities provided by personnel assigned to assist in the provision of nursing care (e.g., Licensed Practical Nurses, Nurses Assistants, Orderlies, and Technicians).
• Implements the prescribed medical regimen, evaluates the patient response, and advises the physician of changes in the patient’s condition.
• Performs extended functions in accordance with written Rhode Island Hospital protocols and policies.
• Participates in clinic and departmental collaborative activities such as joint case presentations and grand rounds.
• Collaborates continuously with the patient, family, Physician, nurses, and other health team members to integrate, evaluate, and ensure continuity of the plan of care.
• Identifies and makes referrals to health team resources within the hospital and the community; serves as a consultant to others.
• Provides, coordinates, and documents teaching for patients and families related to management of health problems, health promotion, and rehabilitation.
• Seeks out and participates in activities leading to self-growth and professional development.
• Updates knowledge of professional, medical, and technological developments and incorporates these into clinical nursing practice.
• Participates in educational activities commensurate with learning needs and individual ability, such as conferences, seminars, and orientation of new staff.
• Works with facility members of affiliated nursing educational programs to integrate clinical practice for students within the plan of patient care management.
• Participates in clinic and departmental quality assurance activities, including monitoring and evaluation of care, validation of nursing and ambulatory standards, policies, and procedures.
• Participates in related clinical and operational research activities.
• Assumes charge position responsibilities for the clinic as delegated.
• Participates with the Ambulatory Clinical Manager in performance appraisals.
• Participates on committees and in other organizational activities involving professional practice and patient care standards.

Requirements

• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
• Bio-chemo certification to administer chemotherapy.
• One year of oncology experience.

Work Environment

Exposed to an ambulatory patient care environment, which includes exposure to communicable diseases. Adherence to infection control policies and procedures minimizes the chance of illness or injury.

Pay

$35.56–$59.99 per hour

• Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
• Day shift
