Registered Nurse - Ambulatory (OB/GYN -Part time)

About the role

Performs an age-specific plan of care for a designated group of patients using the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.

Responsibilities

• Conducts patient interviews, explains policies and procedures to patients and significant others, and reviews patient charts to answer questions correctly and courteously.
• Assesses gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and neurological health status, and adjusts the plan of care as needed.
• Communicates and documents patient physiologic health status and plan of care, and assesses patient psychosocial health status.
• Identifies patient outcomes, develops criteria for measurement, and identifies actual or potential patient problems.
• Develops patient outcome statements and establishes individualized patient goals, and coordinates the cost-effective use of supplies, equipment, and medication.
• Implements the plan of care, maintains constant vigilance over patient care, and exercises professional skills related to the plan of care.
• Provides emotional support to patients and significant others, and applies scientific principles in performing procedures.
• Documents patient treatment, activity, and condition, and evaluates care provided for patient outcome.
• Collaborates with other care team members in planning and carrying out treatment regimens, and provides direction to other members of the care team.
• Accurately interprets and implements treatment regimens as prescribed by physicians, and assists physicians during treatments and diagnostic procedures.
• Administers medications correctly and safely, and educates patients and significant others related to drug and food interactions.
• Participates in patient and family education, and provides patients with explanations of their conditions as indicated.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN Degree within five years of job entry date.
• Current License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.

Skills

• Leadership skills and clinical judgment in coordinating patient care and directing/delegating activities of the patient care unit team.
• Ability to measure effectiveness of care provided and document same.
• Ability to perform variance analysis related to outcome data for performance improvement.
• Ability to design, implement, and evaluate systems to improve care in the unit.
