Meet the Team

The Medical University of South Carolina Admit-Transfer Center is an elite team of professionals who manage all admissions and transfers across our 16-hospital system in South Carolina. They coordinate approximately 1500 transfers monthly and 1000 phone calls daily, facilitating patient transfers to MUSC hospitals from MUSC as well as non-MUSC facilities.

About the Role

This position collaborates with our Patient Placement representatives and acts as a clinical resource and facilitator, helping to direct transfers, admissions, and bed requests from inpatient, outpatient, clinics, pre-admits, and requests for cardiovascular and medical/surgical services.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate patient transfers to MUSC hospitals from MUSC as well as non-MUSC facilities.
  • Collaborate with Patient Placement representatives.
  • Act as a clinical resource and facilitator.
  • Utilize technology for multi-faceted communications.
  • Apply nursing knowledge derived from education and experience.
  • Help direct transfers, admissions, and bed requests.
  • Manage approximately 2000 beds and coordinate approximately 1500 transfers monthly and 1000 phone calls daily.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to initiate education for BSN within 2 years and complete within four years of hire date.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
  • Experience with EPIC and patient flow/throughput in a call center environment preferred.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of work experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Leadership experience, including Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, and/or Nurse Manager preferred.

Skills

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficiency in EPIC and patient flow/throughput systems.

Benefits

Shifts include 12-hour days, rotating holidays, weekends, and storm coverage. Physical requirements include continuous standing, frequent sitting, walking, climbing stairs, reaching overhead, performing repetitive motions, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working in confined/cramped spaces.

Pay

The pay rate is hourly, with a pay grade of Health-28. The scheduled weekly hours are 36, and the work shift is Day (United States of America).

Schedule

  • 3 shifts available per week.
  • Rotating holidays, weekends, and storm coverage required.
