Registered Nurse ACE (Acute Care for the Elderly) Medical Unit

About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) at Good Samaritan Hospital's ACE Medical Unit is responsible for providing comprehensive, patient-centered care to older adults in an acute care setting. Specializing in the unique needs of this vulnerable population, the unit offers a highly specialized model of care focused on preserving function, promoting independence, and enhancing overall patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Achieve appropriate assessments of physical, social, and psychological status, including cognitive, communicative, and developmental skills as necessary.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to gather and evaluate information from various sources, including patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
• Create and implement individualized care plans based on assessment findings, seeking input from patients, families, and healthcare providers as needed.
• Direct interdisciplinary care teams through delegation, coordination, and collaboration, ensuring that patients receive care consistent with their plan of care and professional licensure.
• Evaluate patient responses to interventions, revising care plans as necessary and reassessing changes in patient status.
• Promote the nursing profession and collaborate with colleagues to enhance patient care and professional development.

Requirements

• Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice.
• Valid compact licenses must be transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of employment.
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need for visual and reading skills to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.
• Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors, requiring quick and accurate understanding of spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues, particularly during emergency situations.
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including computer use, typing, and handling supplies and equipment.
• Ability to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients, bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, typically including items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
• Expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time, navigate crowded and busy rooms, push/pull gurneys and portable equipment, and assist with transporting/ambulating patients.
• May be expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
