About the role

Central New York Psychiatric Center has immediate job opportunities for Registered Nurses (RN); previous psychiatric experience is not required. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply. Nurses are vital members of a multi‑disciplinary treatment team focused on providing compassionate, patient‑centered, recovery‑focused mental health services to individuals with serious mental illness. This position is located at the Elmira Satellite unit on the grounds of the Elmira Correction Facility in Chemung County.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating and providing nursing care
• Conducting nursing assessments
• Preparing, implementing, and modifying nursing care plans
• Providing health teaching, counseling, and education to individuals and families
• Implementing infection control protocols and procedures
• Observing and recording individuals' symptoms and care; reporting responses to medications or changes in health

Qualifications

• License and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State (for candidates outside State Service under the NY HELPS program as RN 1 Psychiatric)
• OR, for candidates within State Service: one year of permanent competitive or 55‑b/55‑c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law
• Must not be listed as an excluded individual or entity on any Federal or State Medicaid/Medicare exclusion lists (or any other Federal/federally assisted program); appointment may be terminated if later listed
