Duties
- Provides direct nursing care to clients, including comprehensive admission assessments, dispensing medication, providing physician-ordered medical treatment, transcribing orders, and collection of specimens for laboratory analysis or culture.
- Provides health education to clients, monitors client behavior and participates in treatment planning.
- Affirms the needs of clients, which can include an assessment of care received, services available, and work environments to identify potential obstacles to success.
- Handles crisis intervention with clients (psychological, physiological and behavioral).
- Maintains accurate and detailed reports and records electronically and/or physically as appropriate.
- May provide clinical supervision to licensed, paraprofessional, and direct care personnel (i.e. Addictions Counselors) involved in the care and treatment of clients and may assist in aspects of administrative supervision, such as developing/setting performance standards; may serve as shift supervisor on the evening or night shifts.
- May assist in general client care activities, such as meal preparation & distribution and room preparation.
- Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment; monitors clients and ensures building security.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Permanent status as a Registered Nurse 1 (Psychiatric) and interested in reassignment; OR for permanent, non-competitive appointment under the Civil Service Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement (HELPS) Program, Possession of a license and current registration to practice nursing in New York State.
- This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
- Employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.
- This position may be designated 55 b/c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility.
- Candidates must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs. Failure to maintain licensure, certification and Medicaid/Medicare eligibility will result in the termination of employment.
- Mandatory overtime (MOT) is a requirement of this position. Chosen candidate(s) will be added to the mandatory overtime roster, which is utilized on a rotating basis. The MOT is applied during times of emergency, after the agency has made a good faith effort to have overtime covered and all other staffing options have been exhausted (volunteers, hourly staff, contracted staff).

Pay
- SALARY
Base Salary: $76,147 - $85,138* - *Plus Geographic Differential $35,000
- *Plus Shift Differential – 10% of base salary for night shift
- *Plus Inconvenience Pay $575
- *Plus Location Pay $4,000
- The salary range listed in this posting reflects the full range for this graded position, factoring in annual performance advances based on satisfactory annual performance reviews. Candidates with no previous State service will begin at the hiring rate (starting rate of the salary range) listed above, plus any applicable Location Pay/Geographic Pay/Shift Pay differentials.
- Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
Schedule
- Shift: 11:30 PM – 8:00 AM
Pass Days: Tuesday/Wednesday
