About the role

The Registered Nurse 1 (RN 1) serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team performing various nursing duties, including coordinating and monitoring all aspects of medical care for residents at the Taberg Residential Center.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to residents, including comprehensive nursing assessments, administering medications, implementing physician’s treatment orders, transcribing orders, and collecting specimens for laboratory analysis or culture.
  • Provide health education to residents, their guardians, and staff; participate in interdisciplinary support plan meetings.
  • Represent nursing on the resident’s support team; consult and coordinate with support teams and other health care disciplines to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate resident care.
  • Provide first aid and emergency nursing care.
  • Assess, monitor, and document resident’s symptoms, conditions, and care, including diet and physical activity.
  • Identify and report resident’s responses to medications or changes in health status.
  • Monitor resident’s medication, ensuring medications are ordered and available for administration.
  • Meet documentation standards regarding transcribing physician’s orders, nursing progress notes, health charts, and support plans.
  • Act as a liaison to community providers to ensure continuity of care; follow up with community providers when necessary and advocate for resident’s needs.
  • Participate in discharge planning by securing community appointments to ensure continuity of care.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed reports electronically using Excel and/or Word.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.

Requirements

  • Licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State; must maintain a valid New York State license and registration.
  • For transfer candidates: one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in this title or in a title eligible for 70.1 transfer.
  • For NY HELPS candidates: this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment if the candidate meets the minimum qualifications. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), non-competitive status may be converted to competitive status without examination.

Schedule

  • Full-time, contingent permanent position.
  • Workweek: 40 hours, Monday through Friday, 12 PM – 10 PM.
  • No flextime, mandatory overtime, or compressed workweek allowed.
  • No telecommuting allowed.

Pay

  • Salary range: $96,147 – $105,138 annually.
  • Posted hiring salary includes the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 18 plus a $20,000 geographic differential.
  • Additional compensation may apply based on candidate’s training and experience.
  • Evening shift (12 PM – 10 PM) qualifies for a 7% shift differential and $575 inconvenience pay.

Background Investigation

All prospective employees will undergo a Criminal Background Check (CBC), including State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. Convictions must be reported; falsified or omitted information may bar appointment. Fingerprinting is required. Prospective employees will also be screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR) and, for DJJOY appointees, the Staff Exclusion List (SEL).
