About the role

The Registered Dietitian (RD) provides comprehensive, complex nutrition and health education services to adult and pediatric patients with a variety of medical/nutritional problems. The RD applies thorough knowledge of disease pathophysiology in relation to nutritional theories and practices, managing acute, chronic, and terminally ill clients/patients characterized as medical high risk. Responsibilities include managing hypertension and diabetic programs, contributing to quality and patient care initiatives, and participating in the development and implementation of clinic flow, patient referral criteria, operation standards, and procedures. The RD serves as a technical resource, providing training to clinical and non-clinical staff, and may perform other related assignments as determined by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

Responsibilities

  • Support medical staff in addressing nutrition and weight issues with all patients.
  • Counsel interested patients and families in healthy food choices and physical activity.
  • Maintain a database of patients counseled.
  • Plan patient care independently or in concert with an interdisciplinary team to meet objectives and goals.
  • Help program management develop resources such as handouts, newsletters, demonstrations, and other teaching tools, as well as forms as assigned.
  • Meet with staff to review programs and revise processes.
  • Communicate regularly with providers regarding all enrolled patients and families.
  • Provide consultative services to school nurses, fitness program staff, and other change agents.
  • Assist with special research projects, gather comprehensive health education data and statistics, and make proposals based on findings and trends in the field.
  • Provide oversight, with the CMO, for hypertension and diabetic initiatives at the designated location.
  • Participate in Total Quality Management (TQM) for children and adults.
  • Represent the agency at community organizations and serve as a speaker before public groups, private organizations, and the general public as needed.
  • Travel as needed.

Requirements

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) certification.
  • Master’s degree with two years of work experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Current North Carolina Driver’s License.
