Job Summary
Practices and performs under the delegation and direct supervision of facility-credentialed board certified/ eligible cardiovascular medical specialist. Directly assists as a "first scrub assistant" for highly technical cardio and peripheral vascular procedures.
Essential Functions
- Prepares the procedure tray according to the Physician’s preference and following sterile technique before the patient arrives in the room.
- Works as a team member, helps coordinate the day's schedule with all staff members in the lab to efficiently finish the day's workload.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of patient positioning, principles of CR/DR, Fluoroscopy, quality control, image processing, and demonstrates the ability to plan own work.
- Assists physicians in performing procedures, provides learning environment, develops and maintains performance standards for all exams performed in the lab, participates in quality control/performance improvement in Cardiac Cath lab/EP, exhibits a thorough understanding of cardiovascular medications, institutes appropriate emergency measures in critical situations until the physician is notified for orders or arrives to manage the emergency, serves as a resource person for providers, nursing staff, ancillary personnel and patient/families.
Required Additional Requirements
- Education - High School Diploma/GED Equivalent: General Studies Certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification
- American Heart Association (AHA); Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Accredited University or accredited training professionals OR Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) Certification
- Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
Preferred Education
- Associates degree in Applied Science
Experience
- 5+ years of Cardiology Experience
- 5+ years of Clinical Experience
Scheduling Requirements
Requires the ability to work assigned schedules and hours as determined by the department.
Physical Requirements
- Very Heavy work - exerting over 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or more than 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force occasionally (up to 33% of the time), and/or more than 100 pounds of force rarely to move objects.
- Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances.
