Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of underwriting counsels
  • Provide underwriting guidance to team of underwriting counsels to ensure consistent risk evaluation and decisioning
  • Analyze title insurance risks, underwriting issues, and regulatory concerns
  • Provide underwriting solutions to agents, sales team, and title examiners in accordance with Westcor company guidelines as well as local, state and federal law
  • Handle residential and commercial transactions underwriting
  • Present training seminars to educate title agents and production staff (both online and in person)
  • Provide outstanding customer service while making sound underwriting decisions
  • Handle a high volume of underwriting inquiries via email and telephone in a timely, responsive, and professional manner
  • Analyze and respond to indemnity requests
  • Travel with sales staff for agent visits throughout the state
  • Work well in a remote team environment

Requirements

  • A J.D. degree
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Member in good standing with the Florida Bar

Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent understanding of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of real estate title and settlement process
  • Thorough knowledge of Florida real property law and related areas as applicable to real property transactions

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must be a member in good standing with the Florida Bar

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to talk or hear

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
