Regional Sales Director, US Rare Neurology, Heartland
Territory: St. Louis, Kansas City, Des Moines, Omaha, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Albuquerque, NM.
About the role
The Regional Sales Director, US Neurology will maximize revenue by driving sales activity and providing leadership to a Neurology Regional Account Manager field force of 7-8 Specialists in your regional area. This individual will oversee implementation of Alexion sales/marketing disease, diagnostic, and branded education awareness programs, maintain effective communication and relationships with key external and internal customers, and report to the Senior Director, Area Sales Lead, Neurology, West as part of the US Neurology Business Unit.
Responsibilities
- Drive outstanding sales performance with Regional Account Managers to ensure sales forecasts are met or exceeded.
- Effectively coach the use of assigned resources to drive therapeutic and territory expectations.
- Work with RAMs to customize discussions and HCP interactions based on individual needs in a compliant and ethical manner.
- Maintain current understanding of local market, practice structures, business models, and key influencers; routinely share such information with relevant Alexion stakeholders (e.g., Sales and Commercial Leaders).
- Provide input into resource allocation decisions across the region.
- Lead the RAM Team to identify and select programs/resources appropriate for each customer, practice, and/or system.
- Regularly use analytical tools to evaluate the business and determine how to lead and coach the RAM Team to accomplish sales objectives and apply resources such as HCP educational programs in an effective and compliant manner.
- Work with RAMs to develop local business plans that ensure achievement of goals and sales objectives.
- Ensure appropriate planning to drive effective implementation of the strategic plan.
- Attract, retain, and develop a high-performing team.
- Conduct regular field visits and business reviews, providing regular written and verbal feedback following customer and field visits that address both business development and career development needs of the RAM.
- Create, build, and maintain relationships and regular communication with physicians and key thought leaders.
- Lead the RAM Team to develop new accounts and expand existing accounts.
- Ensure a high level of clinical acumen, business acumen, and customer service is delivered to all customers.
- Ensure cooperative and collaborative communication and execution between all internal stakeholders.
- Develop, lead, and facilitate team POA meetings.
- Provide regular input to the Neurology TA regarding the US Brand Strategy for Alexion products.
- Conduct regular business reviews with the VP/Business Unit Lead of the Neurology Business Unit to ensure attainment of corporate sales objectives, alignment of goals, and personal development plans.
- Act with integrity in compliance with laws, internal policies, and Code of Ethics and Business Conduct; serve as a role model to the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in life science and/or business/marketing or related field.
- Proven track record of employee development and performance management.
- Minimum of 10 years of pharmaceutical or equivalent experience (e.g., biotech or medical device).
- Extensive experience leading manager-level staff and above and delivering results; specialty sales experience preferred.
- Neurologist, neuro-immunologist, and/or orphan drug sales and launch experience preferred.
- Demonstrated successful experience with significantly expanding existing sales teams.
- Broad cross-functional experience in other commercial roles, such as marketing, sales operations, medical, national/corporate accounts, managed markets, or hospital markets.
- Experience with launching a biopharmaceutical preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Must live within close proximity to the region and have the ability to travel regularly within it, including frequent overnight and weekend travel.

Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced or master’s degree ideal.
- Bio/pharma, neurology, and/or ophthalmology experience.
- Rare disease, buy and bill, hospital experience.
Pay
Annual base pay for this position ranges from $185,906 to $278,859. Positions offer eligibility for various incentives, including short-term incentive bonuses, equity-based awards for salaried roles, and commissions for sales roles.
