Regional Safety & Security Manager, Americas

About the Role

The Regional Safety & Security Manager (RSSM), Americas is the single operational owner of safety and security execution for every Anthropic location in the region. Global function leaders set the standards for physical security design, enterprise risk, and environmental health & safety. The RSSM implements those standards in the field, directing campus security managers, regional systems integration teams, safety practitioners, and contract guard forces to protect our people, facilities, and research daily. This senior leadership role includes ownership of the region’s safety and security posture, team, and budget, with accountability for outcomes at every site.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end safety and security operations for all Americas sites, protecting employees, visitors, assets, and AI research while maintaining ASL compliance.
• Lead the region’s safety and security team, including campus security managers, Americas systems integration team, EH&S regional staff, and contracted guard-force partners. Set direction, develop talent, and manage performance.
• Serve as regional incident commander for critical incidents and emergencies; build and exercise emergency-response plans with local law enforcement and emergency services.
• Implement and localize global safety and security standards set by Physical Security Design, Enterprise Risk, and EH&S leaders, adapting them to site and jurisdiction while feeding field intelligence back to refine standards.
• Own the regional safety and security budget and vendor portfolio; drive cost-effective coverage, guard-post standards, and service quality.
• Collaborate with new-site leadership teams on security risk assessments, design input, and pre-opening readiness, supporting the transition to steady-state operations.
• Build trusted relationships with law enforcement, emergency services, and government partners across the region; represent Anthropic in regional public-safety forums.
• Champion an approachable safety and security culture that enables a fast-moving research organization.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive safety and/or security leadership, including multi-site or regional responsibility and direct people leadership.
• Experience leading sizable teams (staff and vendor/guard forces) of 50 or more and owning operating budgets in excess of $10M.
• Served as incident commander for complex, high-stakes incidents and built emergency-response capability.
• Delivered security scope for complex capital facility projects (new buildouts or major renovations) from design through activation.
• Built durable partnerships with law enforcement, emergency services, and government agencies.
• Communicate credibly with executives and front-line staff; influence across a matrixed organization without relying on direct authority.
• Willingness to travel regularly across Americas sites and support a 24/7 on-call posture.

Preferred Experience

• A public-safety, law-enforcement, or military command background transitioned into corporate security leadership.
• Experience managing large teams of 100+ and multimillion-dollar budgets ($25M+) across safety programs, security technology, dispatch, training, and compliance.
• Direct delivery of a capital security/facility project (e.g., a new operations center or campus) from design through opening.
• Track record building critical-incident and workplace-violence-prevention programs.
• Certifications such as CPP or PSP; ICS/FEMA incident-command training; active ASIS/InfraGard engagement.
• Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in a relevant field.
• Experience in high-profile technology, research, or regulated environments.

Pay

Annual Salary: $280,000—$340,000 USD

Schedule

• Location-based hybrid policy: Staff are expected to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time, with some roles requiring more on-site presence.
• 24/7 on-call posture and regular travel across Americas sites.
