About the role

This position is responsible for assisting the Regional Safety, Health & Environmental (“SHE”) Manager for the North American region with technical support, oversight, and providing Process Safety management support to SHE representatives, plants and facilities. Also responsible for supporting the informational needs of plant level, regional and corporate management.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Champion a culture of Process Safety excellence within the company.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and review of Process Safety Management policies, programs, and procedures for LDC North American assets to achieve and maintain compliance with all applicable laws and regulations at the federal/national, state/provincial, and local levels.
  • Respond to Process Safety Management/Program questions, issues, and problems from locations.
  • Provide Process Safety Management/Program regulatory and technical support to locations.
  • Perform technical reviews and audits of Process Safety Management/Program, testing and monitoring activities, and written programs.
  • Analyze significant process safety incidents.
  • Manage and conduct the Process Hazard Analysis program, as well as track and assist with any resulting recommendations.
  • Supervise the application of Process Safety elements as per project development stages.
  • Perform risk analysis and coach others on the use of risk analysis techniques.
  • Provide project support, including support for process engineering to the full development of process packages, application of modeling software, and design of relief devices.
  • Collaborate with teams to discover and implement long-term process improvement efforts.
  • Perform audit of process safety management systems and execute risk mitigation corrective actions.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the exchange of Process Safety Management/Program information and best management practices between locations.
  • Create Process Safety Management/Program reports, studies, and documents for management as required.
  • Develop and provide training to locations.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Experience

  • Basic qualifications: 5 years of Process Safety Management experience supporting operations and/or projects, such as plant or process engineering, project design, execution, engineering and/or technical service roles.
  • Preferred qualifications: 10 years or more of Process Safety Management experience.

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses

  • Basic qualifications: BA/BS degree in a relevant technical or science field.
  • Preferred qualifications: Master’s or BA/BS degree in chemical or mechanical engineering.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Basic qualifications: Knowledge of facility manufacturing regulatory requirements (e.g. OSHA, PSM/RMP, etc.). Solid understanding of process safety elements, practical knowledge leading hazard assessments and exposure to industry API Codes and Standards. Knowledge with Management of Change (MOC), Risk Management, and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) risk assessments. Knowledge of NFPA standards. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills. Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization. Willingness to travel.
  • Preferred qualifications: Knowledge in practice of OSHA PSM/EPA RMP.
