About the role
The Regional Planning Manager oversees all planning and scheduling activities for Suffolk's New Haven projects. This role requires strategic leadership, project execution, and training.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert guidance on planning and scheduling to project teams, ensuring adherence to Suffolk's planning standards and best practices.
- Oversee planner staffing and resource allocation for all regional projects, coordinating with the Regional VP of Operations.
- Recruit, onboard, and mentor planning personnel to meet evolving project demands and foster a culture of excellence and consistency.
- Lead regular planning staff meetings and quarterly regional sessions to drive collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Conduct and present comprehensive schedule impact analyses for projects affected by changes or delays.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules that align with contract requirements and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure the timely completion and quality of project schedules, including the preparation of baseline and updated schedules.
- Validate that monthly schedule updates are accurately coded to support digital reporting and provide reliable insights into key project metrics.
- Support project teams in developing short-term plans and facilitating the Last Planner System, ensuring alignment with the overall project schedule.
- Collaborate with Business Development, Project Executives and the VP of Operations to create proposal schedules for new business opportunities and update preconstruction schedules.
- Partner with project teams to leverage tools like Procore Scheduling and methodologies like Crew Loading to enhance outputs for operations and trade partners.
- Deliver instructor-led training on project planning, planning SOPs, and short-term planning methodologies to New Haven field operations through our Learning & Development programs.
- Provide targeted training and mentorship to planners, interns, and Career Start participants.
- Drive enhancements to planning standards and processes, delivering added value across the region.
- Lead New Haven project peer reviews including Schedule 9-Box, historical project and system comp data, and applying the standard peer review checklist to identify buffer between trade partner and GMP schedule durations.
- Analyze monthly schedule updates to identify trends (e.g., compression, trade stacking) and present findings to project teams and in forums such as monthly project reviews.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
- Minimum of 15 years of scheduling experience on large-scale construction projects.
- Expertise in vertical construction processes to develop proposal schedules from RFP documents for various sectors, including Healthcare, Science & Technology, Commercial, Government, and Education.
- Proven experience in cost and resource loading Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules.
- Demonstrated experience in construction claims preparation from a scheduling perspective.
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management, including cost/resource loading and earned value features.
- Must be a Certified Subject Matter Expert in CPM Scheduling and willing to obtain AACEI Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP) certification within six months of hire.
- Must be trained in and proficient with the Last Planner System.
