Position Overview/Description
The Regional Operations Safety Manager leads field implementation of approved Health and Safety (H&S) programs governing environmental and hazardous materials emergency response, industrial services, environmental remediation and hazardous waste transportation and disposal. This position provides operational safety support, training coordination, site-level program management, audits, corrective action initiatives, and workforce competency support in coordination with operations field, regional and leadership teams and corporate H&S. The Regional Operations Safety Manager reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Operations.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Provide health and safety leadership and directions to assigned region and model GrayMar Values.
- Ensure each employee is prepared and educated in safe work practices.
- Implement approved H&S programs at the field, facility, and regional operations level.
- Support site-specific safety planning, job walks, JHAs, JSPs, project safety plans, proposals, and customer safety requirements.
- Provide in-person project safety support when required by job scope, risk level, customer expectation, or operational need.
- Conduct facility, field, and tailgate safety audits; document findings and verify corrective action closure.
- Support incident investigations through report collection, interviews, data gathering, root cause support, and corrective action documentation.
- Manage training delivery, LMS completion tracking, onboarding, refresher training, customer-required training, and workforce competency support.
- Reinforce Stop Work Authority, near-miss reporting, employee participation, and a non-retaliatory safety culture.
- Provide field documentation and support for insurance, TPA, customer compliance, regulatory support, and safety performance reporting as requested.
- Monitor safety trends, audit results, training completion, and corrective action status to support continuous improvement.
- Respond to emergencies as needed, 24/7, including holidays, nights and weekends.
- Travel for emergency responses and scheduled work.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Thorough understanding of OSHA, DOT, and RCRA regulations
- Comprehensive knowledge in HAZWOPER and environmental industry, specific to environmental remediation, industrial services, emergency response and hazardous waste transportation and disposal
- Experience in field safety leadership, hazard recognition, and operational risk control
- Knowledge in Job safety planning, audit execution, incident support, corrective action tracking, and safety documentation management
- Effective communication with field teams, branch and regional leadership, Corporate H&S, customers, and regulators
- Practical problem-solving across multiple sites with consistent follow-up and professional documentation
- Excellent customer service skills to understand and meet customer needs
- Proficiency in conflict management
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in: Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent field safety experience may be considered
- Minimum of 5 years of safety experience in environmental industry, specific to environmental remediation, industrial services, emergency response and hazardous waste transportation and disposal
- Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910, 1926, 1904, applicable state plan requirements, and customer safety requirements
- Experience with field audits, facility audits, tailgate audits, risk assessments, corrective action follow-up, training delivery, and LMS tracking
- CSP, ASP, CHST, CIH, OHST, or related safety credentials
- Current and clean driving record
- 3+ years of experience with computer applications, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Acrobat and Excel
